New Shoes - Nike Air Max Moto +5

Nike Air Max Moto +5

On Saturday, I also picked up these new pair of Nike Air Max Moto +5 shoes from McCully then headed straight to Ala Moana and put in a very tiring and hard 70 minute run. Tired, cause I rode 3-1/2 hours on Friday. Hard, because these shoes weren't total mush like my 2 year old shoes...

The good news was, for the first time in my life, I finally got a pair of running shoes to fit my "luau feet" cause this shoe was available in XXXX WIDE!!! At first, I was going for another pair of Nike Air Pegasus, like I did 2 years ago http://serikaku.blogspot.com/search?q=Nike%27s , but they just didn't have the right size. So when the sales guy asked if I tried the Moto 5, I thought he was talking about a trail running shoe - (moto) get it? But when he busted out this awesome looking running shoe, and when it fit to a "T", I said, "I'll take it!"

With McCully's shoe sale I got it for about $65 bucks, the same price as the Pegasus. This has got to be the best looking running shoe I have ever seen with all the awesome Blue highlights. Although, it does kind of look like a clown's shoe cause it's so wide.

Lots of Riding and Some Running...

Starting from last last Saturday, I've biked (Sat), biked (Sun), ran (Mon), biked (Tues), biked (Wed), biked (Thur), rested, ran (Sat), and biked (Sun).

On Saturday, I ran the longest I have in probably a couple of years, almost 8 miles from Ala Moana around Kapiolani and back: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1991167 My legs and back and whole body really felt this run...

Yesterday, I finished off the week with a 3h 15m, 83km ride over the Pali with the D-man. That ride was really really really scary as the D-man blasted by me going down the Pali, while I wallowed $hitting bricks while my front end wandered all over the creation going down at 67kph. This is really bugging me as this usually wouldn't set in until over 70 kph...but yesterday, it felt like the front tire wasn't conneced to the handle bars.....and when I slowed down, it still felt weird...

Other than that incident, the rest of the ride was pretty good as I could ride a little harder than last week... although, getting off the bike at our mid ride stop in Hawaii Kai really let me know that I ran far yesterday...

Skipped Race...and Flying Ducks...

So this past Sunday was the Tantalus TT...on a wet wet rainy day. For the first time in a LONG time...I ddddddddidn't do this race...I'll miss the T-shirt for sure...

Last Thursday I did Tantalus after work and I went pretty dang hard...and could only do a 24:37...considering I did that same time last year in training...I probably would have done a mid 23 something during the race. My new pedaling style seems to be helping a bit, although, I still need to perfect it...for sure, I have more options versus only riding from the back like before.

On late Satuday afternoon, I ran at a medium pace for about 6 miles or so from Ala Moana to Kapiolani and back. The highlight of the day was running with my ipod back along Ala Wai Blvd.

While running, two ducks flew waist high right in front of me, sort of diagonally from left to right, high to low, far to close. If I thought fast, I probably could have stuck my hand out and grabbed them! The neat part being, I could clearly see the second duck's still head and neck very clearly, but the wings were just a blur...sort of like a movie...now that was neat...

Not exactly the same, but you get the idea...

2008 Great Aloha Run..

The biggest fun run for regular folks on Oahu is the downwind and fast 8.15 mile Great Aloha Run. Scheduled for February 18th, don't know if I'll be able to fit this in with the Makaha TT on February 24th.
I used to do this run like...easily UNDER 1 hr...when it was actually a little longer than 8.15 miles!!! Based on my current running fitness...I think a time in under 1:05 would be darn good...probably more like 1:08-10 though...

Week Of Running...And A Short Trip to Japan...

Didn't bike at all on the week days due to the super short days...

Tuesday I ran my 3.35mi loop in about 31:50 = 9:30 / mile...felt not real good but really pushed all the way...

Wednesday = 29:25 = 8:47 / mile...felt real good and ran smooth and fast, not really pushing as hard as yesterday...although...by my old standards...8:47 is NOT so fast...

Thursday = 34:00 = 10:08 / mile...felt tired and just cruised it...

Today, because of all the rain, I didn't do any riding...so instead, I took a trip to JAPAN!!! It was pretty short at only 56 min, 36 sec...ran smooth and medium fast, and felt good all the way. Ran in the kind of soothing misty rain that actually makes running feel nice for some reason...

For the first time, with my Ipod ONLY playing J-music all the way (usually, I play mixed)...I found this beautiful song...

Hana by Kosuke Atari...

For me, it was one of those songs that I connected with instantly...my kind of music. Fittingly so, this song was popular on the オリコン (Oricon) earlier this year in Japan...

Running Today...

Today I ran medium fast and felt REALLY REALLY good the whole way...lots of gas in the tank with lots to spare...

While running, I heard one of my all time favorite disco songs and I really had an awesome rush while running to it...

This song by A Taste Of Honey is from the late '70s and just really grooves...and it also has one of the BEST guitar solos in the middle. I just love love LOVE!!! that synthesized guitar, and I wasn't sure whether it was actually a synthesizer OR a guitar. Only after I saw this video did I realize that the bass AND the guitar were being PLAYED by chicks!!! Holy cr@p!!! Not politically correct, but unreal too...you don't hardly see anyone playing their own instruments nowadays...

Boogie Oogie Oogie

Now Running and Only Little Jogging...

Finally got some good running legs back as I did about 7kms today and a little over 5kms on Tuesday. And, I actually ran...sometimes, even pretty realatively "fast" when the good music on my Ipod comes on.

My Kind of Music: Today, the "good" music was one of the best most awesome grooving songs from the pure disco era. What an awesome song to really blast off on!!!

Although not really the best Youtube video around, it's the only one that wasn't a retro remake. Gotta love the origianl sound of a young Evelyn "Champagne" King.

Here's a better version...although a retro one...

End of Summer Weekend...

Everyday Stuff: Today, we bought a BIG bottle of Otokoyama Sake...verrrryyyyy good and smmooooottthhhhh........aaaahhhhh.....

Also drank up the rest of the Funaguchi Sake...premium unfiltered draft goodness...in a can...to protect the draft brew from the quality degrading light.....

Cycling: On Friday, after a week and a half of stressing and cussing out e-bay...I finally got my new $25o Polar CS400 working and took it on it's first real ride yesterday over the Pali with the D-man. Everything except the altitude was working good...got up to 179 bmp at max so I did go a little hard...

To get the damn thing to work, had to read the manual - nothing, read the Polar Forum - Nothing, read the FAQa - NOTHING..... I was getting pi$$ed!!! Had to finally end up calling some foriegn country - I mean Polar Customer Service. The computer needed a global reset: push all 5 buttons and HOLD (dumb cust serv rep didn't tell me to HOLD) till it resets, then push the bottom left, then top right buttons - presto - global reset and all is hunkydorie...

Still don't know if it's worth the hassel though...I kind of liked going "old school" for the last 1/2 year or so.....maybe it was a 250 bone mistake???

Jogging/Running: Today, I spent some time working on my brother's Eunos...so didn't get out till 5pm or so. Ran about 10k from Triangle Park and did what I used to call, my Figure 8 Run around Diamond Head and Kapiolani Park. Still running/walking very slow so it took OVER 1 hour... Jogging ----->Slow Running

After Friday's and Sunday's slow outings, my legs felt like someone took a bat to them.

But...being too late to ride and with the sun going down so early, I actually drove down in the heavy traffic to Ala Moana park to run...since running around Salt Lake is pretty boring...no scenery really ;-)

In the twilight, I kind of sort of jog/ran for almost 4 miles on Wednesdayand could tell that some running legs were coming back. Since I haven't run at Ala Moana for like...years...I saw several long time friends that I've hadn't seen for a long time. In fact, it's been so long that the trees I remember being small back then are getting big now.

Since working in the country, it was good to get back into the townie action again...

Jogging.....

I used to run before...today, I only jog.
We'll see if I can start running...in a couple of months.

Did about 1 mile or so on Friday. Today, did about 5.7 miles around Diamond Head.

Was pretty nice to run instead of ride today, as I haven't run for a long time...and I haven't run around Diamond Head for a really long time...the beach was really nice....

Here was my route today: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1324033
