Ono Hawaiian Food - * * * * *

Last night, me and my friend, Kushima-san and his wife, went out to a nice dinner. At first we were going to eat at Phuket Thai...but Kushima-san suggested a place nearby on Kapahulu Avenue recommended in his バスガイド called: Ono Hawaiian Food!

I think I may have ate there only once in my life...cause the lines are ALWAYS too long whenever I've passed there. But luckly for us, on a Monday night, they were not that busy cause we got a table right away.

All I can say is, now I know why the place is always packed to the gills. That Hawaiian food was suppa ono! We ordered the kalua pig, chicken long rice, and the laulau plates and shared it all family style. The food was salted just perfect for dipping into the slightly sour poi and was just unreal with a bit of chili peppa wata...eh...pipi kaula, lomi salmon, salt onion, haupia...brah...broke da mouth!!!

My Japan friends were a little unsure about going there by themselves since they would have a hard time ordering...but...to my surprise, the lady working there could speak good enough Japanese so that any Nihonjin could go there and be able to order no problem...I think.

While we where there, we sat down next to a couple that looked to me, VERY local...as in from Hawaii. But to my surprise...they were Nihonjin who also did 100 miles for the first time...so Kushima-san exchanged e-mail addresses with them.

While in the restaurant, I tried to explain to Kushima-san that they look like they were from Hawaii, but he had a difficult time understanding my english. Thinking back, instead, I should have told Kushima-san: かれ と かのじょ は ハワイ から と おもえ ん です が。。。I think that's correct???

Ono Hawaiian Food - 5 stars!!!!! (but bring cash only - no credit cards)

Watch Television???

I am totally NOT one to watch TV...but...tonight, there was a show that looked sort of interesting...and...there was a rerun on Soko ga Shiritai...so...

I was FORCED to watch the first episode of this new show on NBC called Heroes...and...it was pretty good...

I missed the first 5 or 10 minutes or so...but the portion I watched was really good. I guess I'll be watching next week Tuesday too...maybe...

Maybe can even learn some Nihongo...since one of the main characters, Hiro, speaks only Japanese as far as I can tell in the first episode. He even has his own blog (Hiro's Blog) on NBC.com. Althoguh some comments say that his nihongo is terribly overdone...I guess I gotta ask my Japanese friends.

You can watch the episode on NBC.com.

2006 HBL Century Bike Ride

Cough..Cough...

Due to my lousy cold, I couldn't make it out to this year's Century Bike Ride. To bad too, since my good friend, Kushima-san and his wife, came in from Japan and I was suppose to go out riding with them.

Sans riding, last night I drove Kushima-san and his wife up to Tantalus to look at Honolulu's beautiful City Lights. Not surprisingly, there were several tour companies with several groups of Japan tourist there. After checking out the lights we had coffee and some snacks at a coffe shop in Manoa Marketplace.

Kushima-san, who has been on Oahu since last Thursday has been blogging and sending pictures back to Japan on his blog here: Kushima-san's Blog.

Since I don't have a new camera yet, here's a picture of me with with Kushima-san and his wife at last year's Century Bike Ride. じゃ またあした

Yesterday I voted. And my candidates all WON!!!
Here's my take: A Democratic Surge!.

My Haleakala Race Report

Finally, hanging...all sick and all...I finally finished my post of this year's Race to the Sun on the island of Maui. Since I still CANNOT RIDE, the most I can do is give my fingers a workout. At least I have a good excuse for getting dropped...

Totally Out of It

Hey...long time no post.

When's the last time you've ever used Vicks Vapor Rub? For me it's tonight.

I've just been totally trashed since last week with kind of flu bug. Infact, I haven't felt all that great since coming back from Haleakala...

I am definitely taking a flu shoot this year no matter how much it hurts:-(

To Race or Not To Race....???

(Thanks for the pictures)

This past Sunday was the 2nd autocross event at Aloha Staduim.

Ok...I had a choice...race in the annual Dick Evans w/ totally useless legs...or go CAR RACING. After much much pondering, I decided to NOT run myself into the ground doing the Dick Evans right on the heels of Haleakala the week before. (Infact, I only feel decently good today as I had a slight URI last week.)

However, as it turned out...I only got 45 seconds of good racing in at SCCA...for what happened last Sunday: My Sunday SCCA Outing.

Akaka Supporters on Maui...

I support well respected kupuna Dan Akaka over Ed Case.

While on my recent trip to Maui, I noticed that there were a ton of Akaka signs all over Wailuku. For my take on the recent debate on television, click here:My Politics of Peace Blog.
