Train Ride...

12/16/07 SCCA Autocross

After a WEEK of rainy whether...the weather gods make Sunday NICE for autocrossing...then I learn some lessons:

Autocross is like golf...sometimes you got it...sometimes (lots of times) you don't!!!

Autocross is like golf...sometimes you get better...then go damn backwards!!!!

That's what I've been finding out these past couple of events...getting pwned left and right - up and down...

STS
Aaron Strom Lexus IS300 38.584 38.614 40.588 1 39.368 38.584 56 31.060 30

This time, Cory with his Celica didn't show up...so...I was thinking, YEAH...I got a pretty good chance to take NUMBA ONE!!! Only thing was...I drove like SH!TTTTT!!!!! AGAIN!!!!!

During my first run I drove real smoothly...not pushing too much, and did a 39 flat...thinking I could easily improve on that. Staging for my second run, Avery (a fast guy) BLOWS UP his Miata's rear end into tiny bits of metal and gear oil all over the back end of the track. http://miataclubofhawaii.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1981&page=2

Ended up waiting for about 30 minutes on deck till the course is cleared and cleaned...then I put on a MAJOR brain fart...forgetting to disable the traction control...then I sat there thinking what the hell to do...for a second run of 70+ seconds...what an embarrassment!!!

Third run, I'm all $@#$ so I end up doing almost 40 seconds...trying to concentrate better on the 4th run, I take a too tight line and hit a cone...would have only been good for a 39.4 anyway...depressed...

My brother did better than me...but not as good as he could have. During the fun runs, he rips of a 38.7 with me in the car, then goes down to 38.2 then a 37.9!!! Holy sh!t...if he would have run that in the "real" race, it would have been way up there in PAX! During my fun runs, I putter around in the 39's then...finally improve to 38.4 and change...so I left the races feeling at least a little happy...

My brother said his fast time came by improving his slalom when he REDUCED the steering inputs - smooth to go fast??? My BIG improvement came in just a very short section of track...where I FINALLY looked ahead on the course. Per the data logger, this one section dropped about 1/2 a second compared to my best official run...

For my next race...I WILL start to look ahead again...
