Ono Hawaiian Food - * * * * *
Last night, me and my friend, Kushima-san and his wife, went out to a nice dinner. At first we were going to eat at Phuket Thai...but Kushima-san suggested a place nearby on Kapahulu Avenue recommended in his バスガイド called: Ono Hawaiian Food!
I think I may have ate there only once in my life...cause the lines are ALWAYS too long whenever I've passed there. But luckly for us, on a Monday night, they were not that busy cause we got a table right away.
All I can say is, now I know why the place is always packed to the gills. That Hawaiian food was suppa ono! We ordered the kalua pig, chicken long rice, and the laulau plates and shared it all family style. The food was salted just perfect for dipping into the slightly sour poi and was just unreal with a bit of chili peppa wata...eh...pipi kaula, lomi salmon, salt onion, haupia...brah...broke da mouth!!!
My Japan friends were a little unsure about going there by themselves since they would have a hard time ordering...but...to my surprise, the lady working there could speak good enough Japanese so that any Nihonjin could go there and be able to order no problem...I think.
While we where there, we sat down next to a couple that looked to me, VERY local...as in from Hawaii. But to my surprise...they were Nihonjin who also did 100 miles for the first time...so Kushima-san exchanged e-mail addresses with them.
While in the restaurant, I tried to explain to Kushima-san that they look like they were from Hawaii, but he had a difficult time understanding my english. Thinking back, instead, I should have told Kushima-san: かれ と かのじょ は ハワイ から と おもえ ん です が。。。I think that's correct???
Ono Hawaiian Food - 5 stars!!!!! (but bring cash only - no credit cards)
