On this same Pacific Heights climb, say about 1/4 of the way up, there is a small patch of sugarcane growing in front of someones house.

I couldn't resist changing this picture to a b&w since it is so nostalgic to see sugarcane growing...like "small kid" times in Waipahu near my Baban's house.

In the 1910's my grandfather came to Hawaii from the Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa) to work in the satakibi fields. (Satakibi is sugarcane in the local Okinawan dialect of the 1910's)
